At the public meeting on the 4th September the results of the Big Idea project were announced.
GET INVOLVED 69 votes
GET MODERN 299 votes
GET ACTIVE 70 votes
GET CREATIVE 250 votes
GET GOING 124 votes
GET PAINTING 73 votes
These votes were the totals of the on line vote, the ballot papers from the ballot box in Henbury library and the votes that were cast at the public meeting on Saturday 4th September 2-3pm at Emmanuel chapel.
The results mean that the winning ideas are:
Get Modern and Get Creative
Get Modern
Refurbishment of 3 youth venues (£12,500)
Run a project to refurbish the scout hut, the youth centre and Emmanuel Chapel (£4166 each), involving young people and local business in the improvements, design and work.
This package would enable three of the main youth venues in the area to have essential works and makeovers completed so that they are fit for use by young people and other groups. The project will make sure that young people are involved in this process. We will make sure that local businesses are involved and will take the opportunity to involve young people in the work where practical.
Get Creative
Street dance (£4,000) fund street dance and beat box classes at Emmanuel Chapel
Musical Instuments (£4,500) fund lessons and instruments in schools and youth venues
Talent Contest (£2,500) run a local talent show for local talent
Community fun day (£1,500) fund the fun day run by young people for the community
The Get Creative package covers different aspects of performing arts. Street dance and beat box classes at Emmanuel Chapel have been popular and would receive funding for a year.
The musical instrument project would aim to get as many young people as possible in the area playing a musical instrument by providing lessons and instruments free of charge for a year.
The talent contest would be a chance for Henbury to show off and have a great time. We would make sure that young people were involved in the planning and running of the event.
The community Fun day, organised and run by young people would receive funding to make sure that it happened in years to come
Well done to everyone involved.
We will be working over the next couple of weeks to get the projects running and completed before March 2011. We'll keep you updated through the HBCC newsletter.
